Treasurer: Tax Collections

Based on the March 1st ownership, taxes are due and payable the following year in two (2) equal installments on or before May 10th and November 10th. If a due date falls on a Saturday, Sunday, or national legal holiday recognized by the federal government, or a statewide holiday, the deadline is extended to the next working day.

Tax bills are mailed once a year, hopefully in late March to early April, with both the spring and fall tax bills included. Payments must be received or federally post-marked by the deadline to avoid penalties.

The following payment options are available:

 1. Payments by mail should be sent to.

 Laporte County Treasurer P.O. Box J Michigan City, IN 46361-0319

 2.Payments accepted at any Laporte County branch of Horizon Bank.

 3.Payments in person at either Treasurer's Office location. 555 Michigan Ave. in Laporte or 302 w. 8th St. in Michigan City.

 

Payments are considered timely if:

• Received in the Treasurer's office by closing on the deadline date.
• Received at local banks that accept tax payments. (Check with bank to determine its time deadline.)
• Federally postmarked by deadline.
